Cloud Database Administrator

Take ownership of mission-critical Azure data platforms where availability, performance, and recoverability are non-negotiable. You will be the senior database authority guiding a 12-month transformation in a fast-moving Brussels environment.

CONTEXT

Our client, a major player in its sector, is strengthening the backbone of its infrastructure and operations function. The organization relies on Azure-hosted databases to support high-volume services, internal workflows, and customer-facing platforms, and even brief instability can ripple across teams and markets. This 12-month mission is about bringing senior-level calm and precision to a cloud database landscape that must remain secure, performant, and resilient while continuing to evolve. The selected engineer will join a Brussels-based environment where technical decisions are weighed against operational reality, regulatory expectations, and the need for continuous service.

ACTIVITIES

Administer and optimize Azure SQL and related cloud database services across production and non-production environments.
Monitor performance, tune queries and indexes, and resolve complex database incidents with a focus on root cause and permanent remediation.
Design and maintain backup, restore, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies aligned with business continuity requirements.
Support migrations, upgrades, patching, and capacity planning while minimizing service disruption.
Implement access controls, encryption, auditing, and other security measures in partnership with infrastructure and security teams.
Automate routine DBA operations through scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and repeatable runbooks.
Document architectures, operational procedures, and recovery plans, and share knowledge with platform and application teams.
Act as a senior escalation point and trusted advisor during architecture discussions and production incidents.

ENVIRONMENT

The mission combines cloud infrastructure, database engineering, and operational discipline. The technical landscape includes Azure SQL Database, Azure managed instances or virtual machines, backup and monitoring tooling, PowerShell or similar automation, infrastructure-as-code practices, and security controls suited to a regulated enterprise. Expect to collaborate with infrastructure engineers, application teams, security specialists, and service management stakeholders in an agile, mission-driven setup. The working language is professional English, with a Brussels-based rhythm and a strong emphasis on reliability, pragmatism, and clear communication.
