Investment Risk Officer
This mandate is to safeguard portfolio management activities by controlling advisory, discretionary and execution-only services with rigour and commercial awareness. You will turn risk data into clear reporting and practical feedback that helps portfolio managers make better decisions.
CONTEXT
Our client, a major player in its sector, operates an investment services platform where risk oversight must be both independent and deeply connected to the front office. The Portfolio Risk Management team is the quiet control tower behind advisory, discretionary and execution-only portfolio management: monitoring exposures, challenging practices and making sure that client promises are matched by disciplined processes. As regulation and market complexity increase, the team is strengthening its ability to assess and mitigate risks before they become incidents. This Investment Risk Officer will join that control tower, combining daily controls, clear reporting and constructive dialogue with portfolio managers.
ACTIVITIES
- Assess and mitigate risks related to portfolio management activities across advisory, discretionary and execution-only services.
- Perform controls on portfolio management processes and provide clear, practical feedback to portfolio managers.
- Improve risk reporting by designing clearer dashboards and reports for management and control committees.
- Support daily risk-related requests from internal stakeholders and respond with accurate, well-documented analysis.
- Participate in risk-related projects and committees, contributing both technical insight and business judgement.
- Monitor exposures, identify anomalies and help ensure that practices remain aligned with regulatory and internal expectations.
- Document controls, findings and follow-up actions so that risk oversight remains traceable and actionable.
EXPECTED ACHIEVEMENTS
The officer will strengthen the first line of defence around investment portfolio activities, helping the organisation detect weaknesses earlier and communicate risk more clearly. Success means sharper dashboards, better follow-up on control findings and a more constructive relationship between risk teams and portfolio managers. Over time, the role will contribute to a risk culture where controls are seen as useful guardrails rather than administrative friction.
ENVIRONMENT
The role sits within investment services and portfolio risk management, with exposure to advisory, discretionary and execution-only portfolio management. The environment requires rigor, data literacy, reporting skills, regulatory awareness and the ability to communicate with portfolio managers and committees. Tools may include risk dashboards, reporting packs, spreadsheet analysis, control trackers and committee materials. The culture values independent judgement, clear documentation and solution-oriented dialogue with the front office.
